671,273. Folding doors. PRANGE, K. May 1, 1950, No. 10661/50. Class 20(iii) . A folding door comprising upper and lower hinged panels 3, 4 which are preferably made of hollow sheet metal provided with interval stiffening members, is supported within the door opening by hinges 5, a supporting arm 14 which is connected at one end to the lower panel 4 and carries at its other end a roller 15 for travelling along a U-sectioned guide rail 16 disposed above the door in a plane at right angles to it when closed, and a counterweight 13 which is connected by a wire 10 over pulleys 12, 11 to the panel 4 to slightly overbalance the door when fully open. Projections 8 engage stapling plates 9 when the door is closed and shoulders.or funnel-shaped guideways may be provided on the lower part of the door uprights to support the lower part of the panel 4. In a modification, Fig. 2, in which the door extends on the inside of the door opening, the lower panel 4<SP>1</SP> is made taller than the upper one 3<SP>1</SP> so that the lower panel 4<SP>1</SP> projects outward, from the door opening to provide a shelter from rain. In order that rain may drain off the projecting part of the panel 4<SP>1</SP> one end of the rail 16' is bent up so, that the panel remains inclined slighty downward when the door is coinpletely folded. Sunken handles and locks may be provided.
