Abstract

671,160. Microphones; gramophone pickups. WILDHACK, W. A. March 13, 1950 [March 14, 1949], No. 6245/50. Class 40 (iv). [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVIII] Movements of the diaphram 156 of a microphone, Fig. 14, vary the electrical resistance between points 40, 42 of a spiral tension spring T made of non-uniform stiffness along its length so that certain convolutions will separate (or close) under smaller axial forces than are required to separate (or close) other convolutions. Two such springs T may be axially deflected by the pivoted stylus 166, Fig. 15, of a phonograph pick-up, the electrical variations of one or both springs being used for the output.
