Abstract

670,853. Land mines. POUDRERIES REUNIES DE BELGIQUE SOC. ANON. May 15, 1950. [March 2, 1950] No. 12068/50. Class 9 (ii). The casing of a land mine is in two part 1, 2 held together by non-metallic screws 3 and closed by a cover 5 with radially extending ribs 6 resting on a deformable torus 7 supported on ribs 9 integral with part 1 of the casing. The cover is so arranged by means of studs 25 that the ribs 6 bisect the angles between successive ribs 9, so that pressure on the cover causes a sinuous deformation of the torus, which is composed of elastic fibres in a textile sheath. A plug 10 is screwed into a central opening 11 in the cover 5. Beneath the ribs 9 the casing is filled with an explosive charge 13 and a booster charge 13a introduced through an opening in the base, which is closed by a plug 15. The charge 13a is fired by a primer 14 initiated by a percussion fuze 20, 21, 22 as described in Specification 670,852. A packing 16 of rubber or polyvinyl chloride, which renders the mine watertight, is held between the plug 10 and the cover 5 along its inner periphery and between the casing and a ring 8 along its outerperiphery.
