Abstract

775,342. Blasting methods and apparatus. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 20, 1954 [May 18, 1953], No. 24960/55. Divided out of 775,341. Class 9 (1). To transmit a blasting effect through water in a sealed borehole as in Specification 775,341 a re-utilizable blasting device is used in which a gas-producing charge is separated from a venting head by a rupturable disc. The device has a steel casing 1 containing a charge 13 surrounding an electric igniter 12 with leads connected to electrodes 7, 8 and terminals 10, 11. A fibre washer 9 seals the firing head, in which the terminals are protected by a steel cap 3. The rupture disc 5 rests on a fibre sealing washer 6. Leading from the venting head 4 is a pipe 20 extending through stemming into the borehole and connected by a pipe 19 and non-return valve 18 to a pump 16 having a water inlet 15. Specification 731,096 is referred to. Specification 431,948 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
