Abstract

670,129. Metallic vapour apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Sept. 27,1949 [Sept. 30, 1948], No. 24750/49. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (i). To facilitate ignition between an auxiliary electrode and a liquid cathode, the surface of the cathode is vibrated so that it does not touch the electrode. In the preferred form, a ripple is produced by a nickel tube which is immersed in the cathode and is surrounded by a coil energized by current which preferably has a frequency ten times that of the discharge. The ripple may be continuous or be produced at the desired point of ignition.
