Abstract
669,846. Making tagging. JOHNS-MANVILLE CORPORATION. March 29, 1949 [April 14, 1948], No. 8481/49. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). [Also in Group XIII] Corrugating, rolling.-A sealing envelope of sheet metal, e.g. the alloy known under the Registered Trade Mark " Inconel," for a flexible heat insulating blanket, includes a tray-shaped segment 16 having corrugation grooves 24, which act as hinges, extending across the width to facilitate the flexing of the face when the cover is applied to a curved surface, e.g. of a combustion engine. A strip of sheet metal is shaped on a mould by hard rubber shaping rolls to form the corrugated tray and this tray 16 encloses fibrous insulation 10, e.g. a batt of asbestos, or mineral wool, and binder. A segment 14 in the form of a flat strip is sealed with a lap joint 13 to the tray segment 16 to complete the envelope which may be of arcuate shape in plan, Fig. 6, to accommodate a frusto-conical surface. The tray 16 forms the face which contacts the insulated surface and, furthermore, it is pleated, at intervals on the edges to be flexed, to compensate for the shortening due to the grooves 24. To accommodate pipe fittings, tubular eyelets are provided through the envelope and it may be ventilated by means of a metal hose. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an envelope consisting of more than two metal segments. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
