Abstract
638,306. Non-conducting coverings. RAYBESTOS-MANHATTAN, Inc., June 23, 1947, No. 16504. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1945. [Class 64(ii)] A flexible heat insulating blanket comprises a layer 19<SP>1</SP> of loose heat-resistant material located between one or more layers 15, 20 of.. open-mesh corrugated flexible' metallic fabric and a covering 14 of woven heat-resistant fibrous material, the loose material 19<SP>1</SP> being separated from the corrugated fabric by a flat layer 21 of flexible metallic fabric of smaller mesh than the corrugated fabric, or by heat-reflecting metallic foil 22, or by both. When the blanket is applied to a high-tempeature surface with the metallic fabric innermost, air can flow through the corrugations. In the form shown, a covering 14 of woven fibres of asbestos, glass or a mixture thereof, is stitched at its edges to the upturned edge of the outer of two layers, 15, 20 of corrugated open-mesh steel or other metallic fabric which are separated by an intermediate layer 18 of smaller mesh metallic fabric. The layer 19<SP>1</SP> is of asbestos, glass wool, mineral wool, slag wool, or fibre-glass. In modifications, the foil 22 is omitted, and in one form the layers. 20, 21 are also omitted. The covering 14 may be coated with synthetic resin or synthetic rubber compound and the fibrous filling treated, to render them impervious, to water or oil. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a form in which the layer 19<SP>1</SP> of fibrous material is omitted. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
