Abstract

462,215. Nonconducting coverings for heat. RICHARDSON, A. W., and RICHARDSON, G. April 17, 1936, No. 11105. [Class 64 (ii)] A heat-insulation unit comprises a diaphragm composed of heat-insulating material faced with a thin layer of heat reflecting material, such as sprayed metal or metal foil, and supporting means in the form of metal cups secured to and projecting from the diaphragm to space the latter from the surface to be insulated. Aluminium cups 23 may be secured to the diaphragm by means of tongues 21, 22. A unit may be built up from a number of diaphragms 6, Fig. 5, the cups 23 being provided on both sides of a diaphragm or on one side only. Intermediate sheets may be left plain and may be composed of thin sheet metal only. The diaphragms may be flexible and a continuous strip may be wound round a pipe 29, Fig. 7. In use, the insulation may be covered with corrugated iron or plaster.
