Abstract

669,007. Mineral planers. GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA. May 31, 1950. [Oct. 24, 1949; Oct. 27, 1949] No. 13653/50. Class 68 (i). In a double-ended planer that wedges mineral from a face 14 as it is drawn along the side of a conveyer 16 that is forced towards said face by pneumatically operated jacks, the depth of cut is varied by providing on the planer frame 10 at the side adjacent the frame displaceable or interchangeable slide shoes 18. Each cutting edge of the planer is composed of individual knives 12a, 12b lying one above the other and arranged step-wise one behind the other in an approximately vertical plane which may lie at an angle of 3 to 5 degrees to the direction of movement of the planer. The bottom knife is provided with a horizontal as well as a vertical cutting edge. Each knife has a tapered shank 22 which fits passages in the tool holder 11 which is pivotally secured to the planer frame. The shanks are replaced by a wedge which is driven into an opening 23 formed in the holder, the hole being perpendicular to the axes of the shanks which axes are arranged parallel to each other.
