Abstract

668,770. Rolling screw threads. N.S.F. NURNBERGER SCHRAUBEN-FABRIK UND ELEKTROWERK GES. Jan. 18, 1950 [Feb. 8, 1949], No. 1295/50. Class 83 (iv). Self-tapping screws are axially rolled between three rollers, the axes of which are parallel to each other. The shank 3, Fig. 1, of the screw 1 is pressed on to a pair of thread-forming rolls 7, 8, Fig. 2, by a laterally movable roll 10 having ribs 11 for producing cutting notches 5 in the screws. The ribs 11 may be parallel to the roll axis or may be curved along the roll face. The rolls 7, 8 may be shaped to produce a tapered end 6 on the screw.
