[Also in Division F2] A self-tapping screw has a rounded tip 42 and a recess at one side of a substantially diametral plane to form a cutting edge 52. A conical tip 26 of a screw blank 58 is pinched by complementary die members 60, 62 before a thread is rolled by dies (66) and (68), Fig. 6 (not shown). Dies (66) and (68) also finish roll the tip 26.
