Abstract

1,165,591. Rolling threads. REED ROLLED THREAD DIE CO. 26 Sept., 1967 [27 Sept., 1966], No. 43657/67. Heading B3M. A thread rolling die which, together with a similar die, produces a thread on a gimlet pointed screw, includes a flat grooved face A, a flat outwardly inclined face B, and a twisted face F, G bounded by a lower edge of face B and the outer edge 20 of a recess E. The inclination of the face F, G varies from 22¢ degrees at edge 28 to 90 degrees at line 18. The wedge formation produced by the intersection of faces B and F, G serves to progressively form a gimlet point on the cylindrical shank of a screw blank and then screw a slug from the end of the blank (Figs. 4-8, not shown).
