Abstract
A mixture of magnesia and calcium carbonate, for use in the industrial purification of water, is prepared by heating raw or calcined and subsequently hydrated dolomite to 500 DEG -800 DEG C. (preferably 700 DEG -800 DEG C.) in the presence of carbon dioxide, and cooling the product also in the presence of carbon dioxide. Hydrated calcined dolomite may be granulated before treatment. The carbon dioxide used may result from the heating of raw dolomite, from combustion gases, or from the roasting of other ores. The process is carried out continuously in a rotary furnace having heating and cooling zones (see Group XII). The dolomite may be preheated by combustion gas from the furnace. Any free lime present in the product lies in the core of the pieces and not on the surface.ALSO:A mixture of magnesia and calcium carbonate, for use in the industrial purification of water, is prepared by heating raw or calcined and subsequently hydrated dolomite to 500 DEG -800 DEG C (preferably 700 DEG -800 DEG C) in the presence of carbon dioxide, and cooling the product also in the presence of carbon dioxide.
