Abstract

668,497. Straightening; forging. NATIONAL MACHINERY CO. Feb. 10, 1950 [March 15, 1949], No. 3459/50. Class 83 (iv). A rod straightening mechanism for use in conjunction with a cold header or similar machine operates out of phase with the feeding mechanism to equalize the load on the machine. The rod 17 is fed from a reel 16 through starting rolls 26, 27 rotated by an electromotor 28-over a grooved anvil 31 and through intermittentlyrotated feed rolls 20, 21 against an adjustable abutment. It is then sheared to length and transferred to the cold header. The rod gripped between the rolls 20, 21, 26, 27 is straightened by a roll 37 on a lever 33 swung anticlockwise by a shaft 44 driven from the cold header when the header slide is moving rearwardly.
