Abstract

677,521. Rolling. MILLS, Ltd., EXECUTORS OF J. March 6, 1950 [March 5, 1949], No. 6047/49. Class 83 (iv). In apparatus for feeding stock to a skew-roll &c. straightening machine gripping jaws 28, 40 guided on rods 24 are moved by an air cylinder 29 to feed the stock forward and to allow of its rotation by the skew-rolls. The lower jaw is of trough shape and aligned with a feed-trough 21 and the skew-rolls. The upper jaw 40 is secured to a shaft 38 with an arm 42 biased by an out-of-alignment spring 44. A freelymounted arm 50 is swung by a stop 55 to control the position of the arm 42. The stock 16 is placed in the trough 21 and projecting into the lower jaw 28 and the cylinder 29 is energized to move the jaw 28. When the stop 55 swings the arm 50 the jaw 40 is snapped into the closed position and the stock is fed to the skew-rolls. On reversal of the cylinder 29 the stop moves the upper jaw to the open position. In a modification the trough 21 is movable by the cylinder 29 and carries the jaws.
