[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXX] Angular bending; barbing by cutting.-A method of making fish hooks comprises accurately positioning pointed wires in turn in dies which are moved to enter the unpointed end of each wire between tools which operate to flatten or form an eye on said end, and then feeding and transferring the wire to a transporter, the pointed end being accurately positioned for presentation first to barbforming tools and then to tools which bend the pointed and barbed end into hook form. Previously pointed blanks 1 are arranged in a hopper 2 and fed in turn by a slotted roller 3 through a shoot having a spring-loaded side wall pad 6, to spring-loaded gripping dies 18. The unpointed end of each blank is located by a cam surface and each blank is forced downwardly out of the shoot by a pair of camoperated levers 12. The dies 18 are carried on a slide 19 which moves to present each blank in turn to end flattening dies 25, which after operation, open to allow further movement of the slide to feed the blank into one of the spring-loaded radial arms of a transporter 26, relaxation of the grip of the dies 18 allowing the pointed end to be positioned by a stop 28. Step-by-step rotation of, the transporter 26 presents the blank in turn to barbing-tools 29, 30, 31, Fig. 10, and bending-tools 33, 34, Figs. 11 and 13, the rotation of the latter serving to bend and also withdraw the completed hook from the transporter arm. The tool 33 is fixed in and projects from the head 36 of a hollow spindle 37 mounted for rotation in a slide 32, and a rod 39, slidable axially in the bore of the spindle 37 carries a stripper plate 40, Fig. 14.
