668,347. Fluid-actuated valves. BRIEDEN, K., and KUHME, E., (trading as MASCHINENFABRIK K. BRIEDEN & CO., K.G.). Oct. 19, 1949 [May 18, 1949], No. 26824/49. Class 135. A pressure regulating valve applicable to conveyer pipes through which gobbing material i.e. material for filling - in mine excavations, is driven pneumatically, comprises a housing 2, Fig. 1, interposed in the conveyor pipe upstream of a point at which the gobbing material is introduced into the pipe, and a spring-loaded piston valve member 4 having a stop shoulder 11 which prevents complete closure of the valve. The arrangement is such that the valve member is actuated by the backpressure in the pipe due to the resistance to flow of the gobbing material so that a greater resistance provides an increased valve opening. In a modification, no stop shoulder is provided on the valve member but an external stop comprising a stirrup 16, Fig. 5, adjustable by a screwed handwheel and spindle 15 and having forked ends 17 coacting with projections 19 extending from opposite sides of the valve member is arranged so that when the stirrup is raised, as shown, the valve member is held slightly open, but when fully lowered, the stirrup secures the valve member in closed position. Intermediate positions of the stirrup vary the degree of movement permitted the valve member. In a further modification, an adjustable wedge varies the compression of the loading spring 10.
