Abstract

A textile oil composition comprises a light mineral oil, 5 to 20 per cent of an oil soluble mahogany sulphonate and 0.5 to 3 per cent of a polyoxyalkylene derivative of a fatty acid partial ester of a polyhydric alcohol or mixtures of such materials. The oil used may have a viscosity of 50 to 200 S.S.U. at 100 DEG F. The mahogany sulphonate is usually added as a concentrate in mineral oil and, if desired, a mixture of mahogany sulphonate salts of various metals may be used. In addition to the polyoxyalkylene derivative of a fatty acid partial ester of a polyhydric alcohol there may be added a small amount of a polyhydric alcohol partial ester of a fatty acid such as sorbitan mono-oleate. The final composition may have a viscosity of 100-300 S.S.U. at 100 DEG F. This viscosity may be adjusted by addition of an organic diluent such as ethylene glycol monobutyl ether in amounts up to 3 per cent. The composition may be used for treating woollen goods and may be readily scoured therefrom by means of an aqueous solution containing 0.02 to 0.5 per cent of soda ash and, if desired, soap. The compositions will remain stable for 24 hours as 10 per cent emulsions. In an example a composition is prepared by mixing at ordinary temperatures 86.7 per cent of mineral oil (100 S.S.U. at 100 DEG F), 12 per cent by weight of a sodium mahogany sulphonate concentrate (about 8 per cent of sulphonate in the final product), 1 per cent of sorbitan mono-oleate polyoxyethylene derivative and 0.3 per cent of sorbitan mono-oleate. The final composition has a viscosity of 184 S.S.U. at 100 DEG F.
