Abstract
667,838. Lifting-stands for motor vehicles. VILLARS, J. March 27, 1950. [Jan. 16, 1950] No. 7587/50. Class 78 (iii). In a lifting device of the kind comprising two runways R, Fig. 1, resting on two crossbars T, the four ends of which are mechanically connected to four actuating members each housed in a column 16 : (1) each actuating member consists of a suspended screw V, Fig. 3, bearing against an axial thrust bearing 6 mounted on the upper end of each column ; (2) each screw co-operates with a nut 21 free to swivel relatively to a support 18 secured to each of the ends of the crossbars ; and (3) each column rests through its base on the ground and is connected to the other columns solely through the ground to the exclusion of any other rigid bracing member. Each column 16 has a slot 17, Fig. 4, through which pass members 20 connecting a short tube 18 to a member 19 bolted to the end of the crossbar T. The barrel-shaped nut 21 can swivel freely in the tube 18 which has apertures for the passage of the screw. A half cylinder 23 prevents water and mud from fouling the screw. Each runway is movable along the crossbar and is secured in any position by the engagement of a pin with one of a series of holes 29. The lower non- circular end 1 of each screw engages a crown wheel 2 which rests on an axial thrust bearing 3. The crown wheels are connected by gears 8 and transmission shafts 7, one of which is driven by a motor M. Each pinion 8 has an axial bore 13 which communicates with the groove of a tooth by a passage 14. Radial passages 15 connect the bore 13 with the surface of the bearings 9. In a modification (not shown) each screw is driven by a separate motor through planetary gearing.
