Class 18 [Also in Group II] An apparatus, Fig. 1, for projecting fluid or powder material into an air stream wherein the material is contained in a reservoir 1 from which it drops into the air stream which is produced by fan 2 and which conveys the material toward the discharge outlet 4 is characterized in that it includes an extension member 7 of the reservoir, which member is elastically connected to and supported by said reservoir and to which repeated shocks are applied to cause the material to drop into the air stream. Fig. 1 and 3.-The extension member 7 is supported by its flange 12 which is held between rubber rings 10 and 11 secured between reservoir 1 and flange 13 of detachable lid 6 of the fan 2 by means of bolts 14. The fan is operated by handle 3 and a cam on the fan strikes abutment 15 on member 7 to shake material from reservoir 1 through sieve 9 fixed on member 7 and so to introduce the material into the air stream flowing through fan inlet nozzle 8. Fig. 6.-Member 7 is alternatively formed with spring gate 101 which is opened by screw 102 which has an inclined surface 103 which engages the gate and opens it as required. Fig. 9.-Alternative form of member 7. The latter is formed with inner wall 118 and outer wall 106, the walls being held between rubber rings 108, reservoir 1 and strap 120 by the bolts shown. The abutment for shaking the member 7 is shown as roller 111 mounted on spindle 112 on outer wall 106 and may also take the form of an adjustable ball or roller in adjustable bearings. Sieve 9 formed with flange 24 is mounted by spring arm 22 at the bottom of outer wall 106. A set of interchangeable sieves each having different sized flanges enables control of rate of flow of material into the air stream. The inlet nozzle 8 is formed with an opening 29 and slits 27 and 28 to distribute the air stream therethrough. Fig. 17.-The reservoir 1 has lid 104 closed by hinged stirrup-shaped wire 30 held by latch (not shown) and is supported by two wire braces one of which is shown at 121. which braces may be of different shapes and of cloth. Fig. 19.-The sieve 9 may be formed with ridges 21a to increase the sieving action and the nozzles may be circular or formed as dots. Specifications 643,675, [Group I], and 651,718 are referred to.
