[Also in Group VI] A foam-forming device for immersion in water to which a foam-forming medium e.g. saponin has been added consists of a casing formed in two parts which abut and are secured together enclosing between them a porous plate of wood with rubber sealing means compressed between adjacent surfaces of the casing and of the plate to prevent leakage when air under pressure is supplied to one of the casing parts. As shown the overlapping casing parts 1, 2 enclose a perforated wood plate 3 and are recessed to receive sealing rings 4, 5 which are compressed when the casing parts are cemented together and can expand to complete the seal between the casing or the plate when the plate has contracted as the result of drying out. The air from the inlet pipe in the chamber 9 passes through the sloping perforations in the plate to form foam on the upper surface of the plate. The foam escapes from the chamber 8 through openings 14 in the casing part 1. The two parts of the casing may be secured together by screws and in a modification a simple seating ring is wedged between one part of the casing and the wood plate.
