Abstract

667,270. Milling - cutters. GLEASON WORKS. April 7, 1948 [April 23, 1947], No. 9803/48. Class 83 (iii). A gear-cutter comprises a rotary head having formed therein a number of spaced bladereceiving slots in each of which a blade is secured by means which draw the blade against the rear wall of its slot. In the form shown, the cutter comprises two disc members 10, 11 to which are secured two ring members.20, 21 on the opposite faces of which are arranged two series of slots and lands 24, 30 and 25, 31, the lands of one series being disposed opposite the slots of the other series. Each slot has rear, front and side walls 26, 27, 28, respectively, and the bottom wall of the slot is formed by the peripheral surface of the corresponding disc member. Each blade 32, or 33, is secured in its slot by means of a screw 60 which draws the blade against the side, rear, and bottom walls of the slot. Alternate blades act on opposite sides of a tooth space and the blades of each pair of opposite side-cutting blades overlap slightly laterally. Specifications 495,944 and 514,572 are referred to.
