Abstract
666,663. Pneumatic actuation of switches. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. July 29, 1949. [July 31, 1948]. No. 20005/49. Class 38 (v). [Also in Group XXVIII] A pneumatic drive mechanism primarily for the actuation of electric switches is provided with an operating or power piston d, Fig. 1, and a buffer piston f in separate cylinders e, g supplied with compressed air from a common source. On the application of pressure air, the power piston d makes an upward undamped movement until it engages the buffer piston f. A further damped movement of the pistons occurs against the pressure applied to the piston f, which is provided with an aperture h which allows the pressure on both sides of the piston f to be gradually equalised to prevent rebound. In a modification, Fig. 4, a further piston k is provided to check the movement of the pistons d, f, the space n beneath the piston k being slowly filled with pressure air through a throttle valve o to enable a short movement to occur to enable the apparatus to reach its final or end position.
