Abstract

666.344. Changing signs. SMITH, M. BAKER-. July 3, 1950 [July 1, 1949], No. 17446/49. Class 3 (i). [Also in Group XI]. In an illuminating device for theatre, window or advertising displays, a casing is fitted at one end with adjustable lamps 1 illuminating a translucent screen 10 at the other end, there being additional lamps 9 mounted on continuously rotatable turntables 6 between the lamps 1 and screen 10, and shaped two or three-dimensional light obstructions arranged in the space 11 between the turntables 6 and screen 10. As shown, the lamps 1 are arranged in angularly adjustable lines or groups and each lamp may be provided with individual colour filter arrangements. The turntables 6 are tilted towards the screen 10 and each lamp 9 has a coloured dome, the turntables being rotatable in either direction at variable speeds by motors 7 below the floor 5 of the casing. Each lamp 1, 9 has individual dimming and switching arrangements. By varying the intensity, colour and number of the lamps 1, 9, the position of the lamps 1, the speed and direction of the turntables 6, and the number, position and shape of the light obstructions, a variety of luminous effects and patterns may be produced on the screen 10.
