Abstract
617,069. Advertising apparatus giving coloured designs. STEVENS, A. H. (Burchell-Holloway Corporation). Sept. 8, 1945, No. 22967. [Class 3(i)] [Also in Group XX] In one form of apparatus for producing coloured designs (see Group XX) and comprising two co-axial cylinders 10, 11 of which the cylinder 11 is formed of polarising material and carries strips 18 of birefringent material, the cylinders are rotated by means of convection currents which arise from an elongated electric light bulb 17 and impinge upon a series of fan blades 40 carried by the cylinder 10. Between an analyser 30 and the strips 18 is mounted a member 20 of isotropic light transmitting material which carries a design built up from layers such as 25-27 of birefringent material. The rotation of the cylinders 10, 11 thus gives a variable colour effect to an observer looking through the analyser 30.
