666,277. Preventing corrosion. VERNON, W. H. J., WORMWELL, F., ISON, H. C. K., and MERCER, A. D. April 20, 1950 [April 20, 1949], No. 10471/49. Class 123(i) [Also in Group XIII] Corrosion in a motor vehicle cooling system &c. using an aqueous medium is prevented by adding to the latter a soluble benzoate and a soluble nitrite such as, respectively, 1.5 per cent by weight sodium benzoate and 0.1 per cent sodium nitrite. A freezing point depressant, for example ethylene glycol and/or glycerine, may also be added, in which case the above proportions should be increased to 2-5 per cent and 0.3 per cent. The solution is preferably heated at a temperature of 60‹-80‹C for a short period Specification 598,154 is referred to.
