Abstract

666,131. Tubular heat-exchange elements; hot-water boilers. MORLE, C. W. (Brown Fintube Co.). Oct. 1, 1948, No. 25623/48. Classes 64(i) and 64(iii) A heat-exchange conduit, Fig. 2, e.g. for use in a hot-water or steam boiler, comprises a pair of substantially parallel opposed walls 40, 41 each having a plurality of heat transfer members, e.g. steel channels ,secured to the interior surface thereof and extending longitudinally of the conduit, said heat transfer members each having a base portion 52 secured to one of said walls and a fin portion 50 extending towards the opposite wall, stop means, e.g. a laterally extending plate 60, being interposed between the sets of heat transfer members carried by the respective walls and being engaged by the fin portions of both sets of heat transfer members whereby the conduit is reinforced against external pressure. The conduit shown comprises a pair of shallow flanged openended pans between the flanges 35, 36 of which is interposed end portions of the plate 60 which extends laterally across the conduit, adjacent flanges and the interposed portions of the plate being welded together. Heat transfer members may be provided on the external wall surfaces of the conduit. Hot-water boilers. In the hot water or steam boiler shown in Fig. 1 the internally finned conduits 25 extend vertically through the boiler and are secured by welding to the end walls 14, 15 thereof. Flue gases from the firebox 12 pass upwardly through the conduits 25. Water is .admitted to the boiler at 17 and is removed either as hot-water or steam through the outlet 18.
