Abstract
666,119. Gasifying solid fuels. RUMMEL, R. Dec. 5, 1949 [Dec. 6, 1948], No. 31209/49. Class 55 (i). Solid fuel is subjected in its own molten clinker to distillation and to gasification with air, oxygen, or mixtures with or without endothermically reacting agents such as steam or carbon dioxide, the clinker being maintained in undulating and circulatory movement by the flow energy of the gasifying agent and optionally the fuel flowing into the clinker. A heating zone 1a is connected to a distilling and gasifying chamber 1b by conduits 12, 13, leading from beneath the level of molten clinker in the respective zones to the floor of the other chamber. Gasifying agents reacting exothermically with the fuel enter the heating zone through nozzles 4 in the floor, and dust fuel is blown into the gasifying zone by gasifying agents, producer or other gas, introduced through an inlet 6. By the circulatory motion set up the molten clinker conveys heat absorbed in zone 1a to zone 1b. In a modification the fuel is admitted at the level of the clinker which circulates downwardly in the gasifier and upwardly in the heating zone. Gasifying plant including a fuel drier 31, a steam boiler made up of water tube walls and a preheater 38 for the gasifying agent comprises a simple chamber divided above the clinker level into heating and gasifying spaces by a tube wall 16 each with a gas cooling grid 22, 24. Wet lignite is conveyed up the drying tube 31 by the product gases part of which are recirculated to prevent overheating. Combustion gases from zone 1a are passed through one of a pair of regenerators 38, air entering beneath the clinker through nozzles 19 having traversed the other previously heated regenerator.
