665,350. Cooling brakes. NATIONAL SUPPLY EXPORT CORPORATION, and OIL WELL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. May 25, 1948 [Oct. 16, 1947], No. 14096/48. Class 103 (i). A hoist comprises a shaft (Fig. 1) having an integral flange 16 extending radially therefrom, a spooling drum 21 having a hub 25 which encircles the flange and which is fixed thereto, said drum having a brake rim 32 and conduit means for delivering a coolant to the rim, the conduit means including a lateral part 38 in the flange 16 and an axially extending passageway 36 in the shaft communicating with the lateral port. Shaft 10 is supported in bearings 12, 13 and is formed with flanges 16, 17 which are secured by keys 27, 28 to winding drum 21. The spooling arm has brake rims 30 and 31. Coolant is led to rim 30 (from the right) through conduit 35 formed in the shaft 10, radial hole 36, lateral port 38 and pipes 40, 41 and 42; and is led therefrom to rim 31 through pipes 43, 44, 45, 46, and 47, and is discharged therefrom to the left) through pipe 48, pipe 49, lateral port 50, radial hole 52, and conduit 53 formed in the shaft.
