Abstract

664,743. Sliding roofs. WEATHERSHIELDS, Ltd., and BISHOP, W. H. July 28, 1950 [July 30, 1949], No. 20050/49. Class 108(i) A metal roof 10 of a saloon car has a rectangular opening cut in it and a transparent sheet of plastic material 12 mounted therein on a wooden fillet 11 by means of screws 13, 14 and cover strips 15. A ventilation opening 17 is provided in the panel 12 and a light frame 18 of angle section metal is secured around the periphery of the opening by screws 19 along each side of the opening, metal strip 20 is secured to engage with the downwardly bent edges of a slidable cover 24, and a strip 22 extends across the front of the opening to engage over the front of the cover when it is in the closed position. The cover may be slid by a resilient handle 27 releasably secured to a peg 29 when the cover is closed. A roller blind 31 may be fitted to cover the transparent panel. In the Provisional Specification the edges of the panel 12 may be fitted in a peripheral channel section metal frame, or received in an inner groove of a rubber moulding, which moulding receives in an outer groove a bead integral with the metal roof.
