Abstract
664,394. Coating ferrous metals. POOR & CO. Nov. 7, 1946, No. 33158/46. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 20, 1947.] Drawings to Specifications. Class 82(ii) A method of controlling the adherence of vitreous enamel to a ferrous base comprises forming two layers on the metal, one consisting of a substance which promotes the oxidation of ferrous metal under vitreous enamelling conditions and the other of a substance selected from the group of metals reducing to iron, or compounds liberating such metals, and which do not flash off or sublime at temperatures below vitreous enamelling temperatures, and subsequently firing on a vitreous enamel. The metal may be pickled, rinsed, and treated electrolytically in a bath containing sodium sulphide and free sulphur to produce a layer of sulphur. The metal may then be rinsed and a layer of nickel deposited electrolytically. The oxidation providing substance may be solenium, manganese dioxide, chlorides, chlorates, nitrates, organic oxidizing agents, e.g. quinones, or phosphorus, and the reducing substances may be antimoy, arsenic or cobalt. Specification 649,055, [Group XV]. is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, includes also the subjectmatter of Specification 664,486. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
