Abstract
664,295. Couplings and drawgear for vehicles. NEATE BRAKE CONTROLS, Ltd. April 27, 1950 [April 29, 1949], No. 11468/49. Class 103(v) A vehicle coupling comprises a coupling member attachable to one vehicle and adapted to be received by a retaining member attachable to another vehicle, the retaining member including one or more latches each in the form of a flat plate constituting in the normal position a throat having its largest dimensions at the entry thereto, the latches being resiliently urged toward the normal position but temporarily displaceable therefrom by the coupling member moving into a retained position in which the vehicles are coupled, and the coupling member is located against the end of the plate or plates remote from the throat, releasing means being assocated with one of the plates. In one embodiment, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a cylindrical bar 4 carried by an arm 3 of a coupling member 1 is engaged by two plates 13, 14 pivoted about axes 10 to a retaining member 2. The plates are resiliently urged to the coupled position shown by helical springs 11. An operating arm 20, Fig. 4, is pivoted to the retaining member 2 and connected by links 21, 22 to pins 15, 16 projecting from the plates 13, 14 which plates may thereby be moved to a position in which the coupling may be disconnected. In a modification. Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), a single pivoted plate engages the upturned end 38, Fig. 7, of a bar 38. The bar 38 is carried by an inverted channel section member 40 connected by bolts 42, 43 and springs 50 to an open-ended square member 44 relative movement between the members 40, 44 against the action of springs 50 being permitted by slots 47, 48. Specification 467,185 is referred to
