876,174. Railway vehicle couplings. DOWTY HYDRAULIC UNITS Ltd. Oct. 15, 1958 (Oct. 15, 1957; Jan. 10, 1958], Nos. 32959/58 and 32958/58. Divided out of 876,173. Drawings to Specification. Class 103(5). The subject-matter of this Specification is substantially the same as that described in Specification 876,173 but the claims are concerned with coupling mechanism for a railway vehicle, comprising an automatic coupler pivotally mounted about a substantially vertical axis on the end of a drawbar for swing- ing sideways out of the way to present a second form of coupler in a generally longitudinal position of use, wherein the coupling mechanism additionally comprises locking mechanism which is releasable to permit said sideways swinging of the coupler, and a torsionally acting spring device, the locking mechanism being engageable to provide a location for the automatic coupler substantially in the longitudinal position of use, and the spring device permitting angular displacement of the automatic coupler from the longitudinal position against the restoring force of the spring.
