Abstract
663,943. Induction heating. BIRLEC, Ltd. June 21, 1948 [June 20, 1947], No. 16576/48. Class 39(iii) A method and apparatus for produci n g homogeneous metal melts in multichamber induction furnaces includes the advancing of the outflow of molten metal from at least one melting channel, which opens into two of the several furnace chambers, into a section of one chamber where the influence of the electromagnetic field created in the channel is substantially less than at the channel outlet. A furnace having chambers 1, 2, interconnected by melting channels 3, 4, 5 threaded by transformer units 6, has one end of a refractory current conducting tube 13 within the channel 3 and the other end extending into a section of the chamber 2 which is substantially free from the electromagnetic field. A unidirectional flow of molten metal is thereby set up in each secondary loop formed by the channels 3, 4, 5 and the chambers 1, 2. The inclination of the tube 13, which may be of graphite, and the channels may be such as to allow the insertion of straight cleaning tools into the channels from openings 12 during furnace operation. An embodiment is described wherein similar unidirectional molten metal flows are produced in a three-chamber furnace. Specifications 611,549 and 632,947 are referred to.
