Abstract

663.109. Wall &c. linings; glazing. CHURCHMAN, H., and MERCHANT TRADING CO., Ltd. May 4, 1950 [May 9, 1949], No. 12294/49. Classes 20(iii) and 20(iv) Wall or ceiling boards as of fibre, plaster, asbestos, plywood or glass are supported by means providing a ledge against which the edge of the board is held; cross-runners or noggins supported by the runners secure the transverse edges. The runners, which may be similar in section to those desscribed in Specification 661,063, comprise one part which has a channel 14 with a latterly directed mouth integral with a backbone 10 and outside the position of the board and a second part serving as a cover strip which engages in the channel and extends at 19 beyond it to cover the margin of the board. As shown, the strip is flanged at both edges 18, 20 to seat respectivelv a web 12 integral with the channel and backbone and the edge of a board, and has a channel 16 which interfits with channel 14. The strip part may bridge the junction between two lengths of the other part and ensure alignment. The noggins are similarly formed of a part comprising backbone 24 and channel 29 and a strip part comprising a channel 31 with lateral extensions having end flanges 32 providing seats 33 for the edges of boards. In assembling a noggin part of the backbone is cut away at the end to enable the top webs 25, 26 to be bent to engage under a web 13 or 15 of the runner; part of the channel 29 is also cut away at 36 so that stiffener webs 27, 28, may seat upon web 12 or surface 21 of the runner. A noggin may be supported in place before the cover strip of the runner has been inserted by means of selftapping screws applied to holes 37 in the noggin and aligned holes punched in the runner web.
