663,000. Making hollow-ware. COVENTRY MOTOR FITTINGS CO., Ltd., and GARRATT, A. L. Jan. 23, 1950 [June 3, 1949], No. 14903/49. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). Soldering; joints.- In a soldered joint in which an edge of one part is located In an open groove in the other part which holds molten solder during soldering, the edge has a flange against the flat bottom of the groove and the edge is located with clearance against a side wall of the groove which latter receives a wire of solder so that on being fused it runs between the flange and bottom and by capillary action between the edge and side wall. In an embodiment, the base-plate 2, Fig. 3, of a radiator header tank has a continuous groove 4 which receives an outwardly-directed endless flange 6 on a wall 5 stepped at 7 and a solder wire 9. A highfrequency induction heating element 10 surrounds the perimeter of the groove 4 and when connected to a generator causes the solder 9 to melt and form a joint as in Fig. 4. In further embodiments, the flange is inwardly or outwardly directed and the edge may be stepped or unstepped. Means other than induction heating may be employed, e.g. furnace heating.
