Abstract
662,603. Commutators for dynamo-electric machines. ELECTROLUX CORPORATION. Sept. 6, 1949 [Oct. 4. 1948], No. 23101/49. Class 35. A commutator is made by bending a metal strip 10 having lateral projections 14 round an insulated hub 24, bending the projections down under a flange 26 on the drum and slotting to separate the segments. The root portions 16 of the projections have parallel sides and on one side tongues 20 are struck out for attachment of the armature connections by soldering or pressing down the tongues. The hub is insulated by cup-shaped members 28, e.g. of moulded impregnated paper, put on from each end, such that their skirt portions 30 meet on the outer surface of the hub, and the end portions 32 conform to the shape of the hub. The joint between the skirt portions may be bridged by an insulating strip 36, e.g. of mica, and washers 38 may be inserted between the inturned ends of the bars. The slotting may take place before or after impregnation.
