Abstract

Piperazine compounds containing a single lower alkyl substituent on one of the nitrogen atoms are prepared by heating di-(b -chloroethyl)-amine hydrochloride with a mono-lower alkylamine in aqueous or alcoholic solution in autoclave. In the examples (1-3) monoethylamine and monomethylamine are used as the lower alkylamine to give respectively N-ethyl and N-methyl piperazine. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the additional amines monopropyl- and monoisopropyl-amine as reactants. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
