Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0761175/IV(b)/1> wherein R is an aliphatic radical comprising from 6 to 16 carbon atoms and their salts. They are obtained by reacting a secondary amine of the formula R.NH.CH2CH2OH with glycidol or a glycerol-2-monohalogenhydrin in substantially stoichiometrical quantities or in slight excess. In examples (1) and (2) N-(b -hydroxyethyl) - N - (b ,g - dihydroxy - propyl)-dodecylamine is prepared by reacting N-(b -hydroxyethyl)-dodecylamine with (1) glycidol; (2) glycerol-2-monochlorohydrin in the presence of sodium carbonate; (3) N-(b -hydroxyethyl)-N - (b ,g - dihydroxypropyl) n - octylamine is prepared by reacting N-(b -hydroxyethyl)-n-octylamine with glycerol-a -monochlorohydrin in the presence of alkali or with glycidol. The products are wetting, emulsifying, cleaning and disinfecting agents and dissolving agents for water-insoluble antimicrobic substances and may be used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations. Specifications 358,114 and 419,588, [both in Group IV], are referred to.ALSO:Hydroxyamines of the formula <FORM:0761175/VI/1> wherein R is an aliphatic radical comprising from 6 to 16 carbon atoms and their salts are wetting, emulsifying, cleaning and disinfecting agents, and dissolving agents for water-insoluble anti-microbic substances. They may be used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations. The preparation of compounds of the above formula, specifically where R represents dodecyl and octyl radicals is described (see Group IV(b)). Specifications 358,114 [Group IV] and 419,588 are referred to.
