Abstract

661,573. Disc brakes. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. Feb. 16, 1949 [July 15, 1948], No. 4284/49. Class 103 (i). A spot-type disc brake comprising a stationary C-shape housing 6 surrounding part of the disc periphery, a block of a friction material 11 carried by the housing for engaging one side of the disc and a second block of friction material 18 carried by a plunger 15 for engaging the other side of the disc, is characterised in that the plunger 15 has a fixed length stem 20, the end of which is engaged by a hydraulicallyactuated piston operated by a master cylinder 29. There is secured to a plate 21 on one face of the housing 6 a resilient plate having upturned edges, the deflection of which by the piston 24 produces a resistance force providing a warning that the pads 11, 18 are almost worn out. In a modification the disc 4, instead of being mounted on splines for axial movement, is fixed, and the C-shape housing is movable.
