661,170. Variable-pitch propellers. MACHINEFABRIEK GEB. STORK & CO. N.V. Oct. 7, 1947 [Oct. 8, 1946], No. 26932/47. Class 114. In a variable-pitch propeller or pump impeller whose blades 6 are adjusted by a pressure oil operated servomoter piston 10 having a central portion 12 passing through a bore in a partition which separates the servomotor cylinder 9 from the interior space 13 of the hub which is formed as a chamber for oil leaking from the cylinder and has a free discharge therefrom, the bore in the partition has oil leakage restricting means such as a stripping-box 29. The servomotor central valve 25 is actuated by an electric motor 33 through a pivoted lever 35 to direct the oil from an inlet 23 to either the left hand cylinder space 18, through an annular space 26, or to the right hand space 17, through a tube 19 disposed within the propeller shaft 3 and secured to the piston. The tube forms the " follow-up mechanism and has leads 20 to cut off the oil flow. The chamber 13 communicates through passages 30, 47 with the oil outlet 24. An indicator 40 may be provided for the pitch. In another embodiment the central valve is disposed in the central portion 12 of the piston and is moved by the tube 19. The oil in the chamber lubricates the moving parts of the adjusting mechanism.
