[Also in Group I] In a diffuser comprising a porouswalled dome or the like within which is a part having an orifice through which air or other gas is supplied, the part is removable from within the dome to its exterior without disturbing the dome on its mounting. As shown in Fig. 2 a diffuser pipe 10, supported above the floor 11 of a sewage treating tank, is provided with a number of apertures 16 in each of which is secured a tubular stem 15 for passing air or the like into a porous diffuser dome 19. A circular base-member 18 is secured to the top of the aperture 16 by a nut 17 screwing on the stem 15, and the dome 19 is held down on to the base 18 by a screw 22 having a stopped bore 26 and orifice 27 for conducting the air from the stem 15 into the dome. Sealing gaskets 20, 21, 25 are provided. The nut 17 may be part of the stem 15; the screw 22 may engage the outside of the stem 15; or the nut 17 may be a tubular member into which the screw 22 screws directly, the stem 15 being shorter in this modification. In the form shown in Fig. 6 a grub screw 30 for varying the size of the orifice 27 is provided, the orifice in this case being preferably elongated. A conical or cylindrical gauze air filter 31 is provided, which may be flexible, and when collapsed may be removed with or at the same time as the screw 22. In Fig. 7 a non-return valve 32 is provided so that when the air is cut off any liquid which has leaked into the dome will be prevented from entering the air pipe.
