Abstract
660,446. Plate heat-exchangers. CREAMERY PACKAGE MFG. CO. Oct. 5, 1949 [Feb. 16, 1949], No. 25592/49. Class 64(iii) A plate heat-exchanger has a series of spaced heat-exchange plates 1 alternating with spacing plates 8, all the plates having ports connecting the fluid flow passages between the heat-exchange plates, each spacing plate 8 having secured on both surfaces marginal and port gaskets 15, 16, 17 which have healing contact with the adjacent heat-exchange plates, the marginal gaskets 15 each enclosing inlet and outlet ports 12, 14 and a flow space between adjacent plates, and the port gaskets 16, 17 enclosing other ports 11, 13 to connect alternate flow passages, and each spacing plate having multiple perforations 19, 24 within the marginal gaskets. The spacing plates are corrugated obliquely, the crests of the corrugations being in contact with the plates 1. The perforations enable the fluid to flow from side to side of each spacing plate. Corrugations 18 with apertures 19 at their ends radiate from the ports 12, 14. The perforations 24 shown may be replaced by elongated apertures at the ends of the corrugations. In a modification, only the end corrugations have apertures, and the ends of the crests of other corrugations are spaced from the marginal gasket 15 to enable fluid to flow from one corrugation space to another.
