Aug. 23, 1948 [Aug. 22, 1947], No. 22216/48. Class 124 [Also in Group XXV] Relates to apparatus for drilling holes in mine shafts or galleries comprising an anchorable framework 71 provided with one or more adjustable arms 19 each carrying a device 74 for supporting a drill 17, for example by means of a slide support 50, in which the device 74 consists of an intermediate member 21 which is rotatable about an axis A-A and on which is mounted a member 22 rotatable about axis B-B. Consists in providing the arm 19 with a conical boss 18 co-operating with a conical end 20 of the member 21 which has a part 24 slidable along axis A-A, the opposed faces of member 21 and part 24 forming an expansible and contractable housing which, when part 24 occupies a particular position relative to member 21, is internally conical, and coaxial about axis B-B, to receive a conical portion 23 of the member 22, the whole assembly being secured in position by tightening means 27-29. The conical portion 23 is slit in a plane parallel to axis B-B to resiliently receive the support 50 slidable along on axis C. The part 24 has an extension 25 to engage a groove 26 in member 21. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a linkage system for mounting the drill on a framework within a shaft, saddles for mounting the drill and its motor on the slide support, and a feed motion for the drill including a tubular member containing a chain driven by a piston displaced by oil or gas under pressure or by partial vacuum. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
