723,049. Flexible shafts. SUMMERTON, T. F. Oct. 15, 1953 [July 15, 1952], No. 17790/52. Addition to 677,530 [Group VII]. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group VII] The end of the sheath 7 of a flexible shaft 8 has fixed to it, by suitable means such as prongs 14, a sleeve 13 secured in a bracket 10, the free end of the sleeve being clamped by a collar 21 on to a boss of the outer member 19 of a ball-bearing. The inner member 16 of the bearing has welded or otherwise fixed to it a spindle 24 screwed at one end to a plug 29 fixed on the end of the shaft 8 and at the other end to a cup-member 25 secured to a boss 22 of a driving or driven member; the spindle 24 has a collar 30.
