Class 23 [Also in Group VIII] A clothes washing and drying machine comprises an outer cylindrical container 10 having an inwardly directed lip 13 on its upper end, an inner perforated cylindrical clothes receptacle 11 rotatably mounted within the outer container, a series of outwardly projecting vanes 20 at the upper end of the receptacle 11, an over-flow outlet 17 from the outer container disposed below the upper end of the clothes receptacle, and a fluid ejecting nozzle 24 mounted on the inner wall of the container and disposed so as to direct a jet of fluid under pressure on to the vanes to rotate the receptacle at high speed for drying. The vanes 20 may be formed by punching out a series of lugs from a metal band 21 secured around the receptacle 11. The upper end of the wall 11 is turned over to form a depending skirt 18, and a channel 19 into which the band 21 projects. The outer ends of the vanes 20 may be secured to the inner surface of the skirt 18. In a modified construction a stationary cover plate on the container 10 may be shaped to provide a channel in which the vanes rotate. Specification 615,819 is referred to.
