Abstract
A process for the treatment of cutting tools, such as drills, reamers, milling cutters and lathe tools, comprises bonding either molybdenum di-sulphide or boron nitride with an ester to form a paste, coating the tool with the paste and heating the tool to volatilize the ester and leave an adherent film of molybdenum di-sulphide or boron nitride on the surface of the tool. Amyl acetate or a like substance or cellulose thinners may be used as the ester and, with these, the tool is heated to 300-350 DEG C. The Specification states that the film appears to act as a solid lubricant. According to the Provisional Specification, a starch such as corn starch may be used as the binding agent in making the paste.ALSO:A process for treatment of cutting tools, such as drills, reamers, milling cutters and lathe tools, comprises bonding either molybdenum di-sulphide or boron nitride with an ester to form a paste, coating the tool with the paste and heating the tool to volatilize the ester and leave an adherent film of molybdenum di-sulphide or boron nitride on the surface of the tool.
