Abstract
660,053. Sugar cane mills. SOC. FRANCAISE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES (Anciens Etablissements Cail). Feb. 8, 1949 [Oct. 2, 1948], No. 3401/49. Class 59 A feed device for sugar cane mills and the like comprises a rotary packing roller in combination with a reciprocating rammer moving in a plane spaced from said roller, a dihedron shaped stationary scraper in line contact with the roller preventing material adhering to it. As shown the feed device is applied to a sugar cane mill wherein material t o b e treated is fed from the conveyer 71 over the guide plate 70 to a packing roller 26 which, together with the vertically reciprocating rammers 65 and the scraper member 36 packs the material into the cavity formed between the roller and the cylinder 2 whence it is forced between the cylinders 2, 4 to the outlet. The roller 26 is journalled in two suitably braced plates 17 and is horizontally adjustable relative to the cylinder 2 by the provision on each plate 17 of a horizontal groove 18 which engages an arm on a bracket 21 fitted to the cylinder 2, 4 to the outis driven, through sprockets 33, 34, and chains 35, off an intermediate shaft 30 which derives its rotation via sprockets, chains and gears from the main drive to the mill through coupling 5 on the cylinder 2. Sprockets 56 on the shaft 30 drive, through chains 55, a shaft 54 mounted in trunnions 48 which are formed in a rocking frame 45 comprising two parallel and vertical longitudinal cheeks 46 topped with a removable casing 50. Adjustment of the frame 45, and hence the plane of reciprocation of the rammers 65 which are driven by the shaft 54, is effected by rocking it about bearings 44 formed in the plates 17 locking in the chosen angular position being by bolts 53 which pass through arcuate slots 51 in a rib 52 of said frame and also through holes in the plates 17. The shaft 54 supports eccentrics 58 on each of which is mounted a collar 59 secured to two rods 60 connected by journals 61 to a barrel 62 which slides between the cheeks 46. Internally said barrel is cylindrical to accommodate spring loaded piston 63 connected by a rod 64 to a rammer 65. Between the roller 26 and cylinder 3 and in line contact with the : former is arranged an adjustable closure scraper member 36 forming a kind of share dihedroned shaped adjusted at each end by rods 39 passing freely through blocks 40 journalled in the plates 17. In a modification the rammer comprises a one piece gravity actuated member which is pivotally connected at each end by two rods having longitudinal slideways to crank pins keyed on a shaft similar to 54. The weight of this rammer may be varied by providing a cavity within it which may be filled with ballast.
