Abstract

659,653. Measuring magnetic intensity. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and HIBBERD, R. G. June 1, 1949, No. 14727. [Class 37] The intensity of a magnetic field is measured by apparatus utilizing the Hall effect. According to the invention, current from V1 is applied at A to a plate P exhibiting the Hall effect, and traverses two parallel paths each including resistance R5, R4, a meter M being connected between the output points XY which are normally at equal potential. A potentiometer R6 enables the points XY to be initially adjusted to equal potential. The two paths AX, AY and the resistances R4, R5, R6 thus form a balanced bridge; any variation of magnetic field at right angles to the plane AXY unbalances the bridge, and the unbalance current is a measure of the variation.
