Abstract
659,652. Fuel injectors. BISCHOF, B. May 28, 1949, No. 14355. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1948. [Class 7(iii)] A piston working in a body member 1 comprises two parts 2, 3 of different diameters each slidable in fluidtight guides 4, 5 located at corresponding ends of a compression chamber 6 in the body 1 and fed from a supply orifice 18 with fuel under pressure that moves the piston in the direction of the fuel flow such that part 3 enters the chamber and causes a reduction of volume therein. There are co-operating parts of the piston and body, which, when the piston moves, closes the chamber, as by a conduit 15 connecting the chamber and piston bore 14 and closed by the chamber bottom 8 when moved through a distance h, and which causes the ejection of fuel from outlet orifices 16, as by controlling the opening of the orifices by the body ridge 22 when the piston moves a distance h<SP>1</SP>. The piston is returned to its withdrawn position principally by the elasticity of the fuel which is compressed in the chamber and the return may be assisted by a spring 7. The piston may have a head T the faces 10, 11 of which co-operate with faces 12, 13 of a chamber 20 to limit the piston movements. In modifications (a) the wall of guide 5 has an annular groove in communication with the chamber 20 and the upper edge of which cooperates with face 9 of part 3 to close the chamber, the groove being connected by radial channels with the bore 14 when the piston moves down, there being a single central orifice 16 or several orifices tangential to the bore so that ejection of fuel causes rotation of the piston, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), (b) the bore 14 is closed below conduit 15 and a single central orifice is controlled by the edges of a groove formed in the wall of guide 4 and connected by a conduit to chamber 20, Fig. 6 (not shown), and (c) the faces 10, 11 of the head are connected by axial conduits which are inclined with respect to the piston axis so that fuel discharged into chamber 20 produces a rotation of the piston, Fig. 7 (not shown).
